County Seat on the I-65 Corridor

Heavy Duty Towing Crown Point covers the county seat of Lake County, Indiana, a city of 33,899 people (2020 census) about 40 miles southeast of the Chicago Loop. We recover semis, buses, RVs, dump trucks and heavy equipment, and dispatch answers 24/7 at (219) 529-2610.

From the square to the interstate

Solon Robinson and his family became the first settlers on October 31, 1834. Lake County was incorporated in February 1837, and Crown Point was designated the county seat that year. It was incorporated as a town on June 3, 1868 and reincorporated as a city on June 6, 1911. The Old Lake County Courthouse, called the Grand Old Lady, stands on the square. Its first portion was built in 1878 and additions followed through 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Streets around a 19th century square were not laid out for 53-foot trailers. If you are stuck downtown, give dispatch the cross street and what is blocking the unit.

Two I-65 exits to know

  • Exit 249 is 109th Avenue. It serves Crown Point and Winfield, and the interchange opened on September 30, 2010.
  • Exit 247 is US 231. It serves Crown Point and Hebron.
  • From the I-80/94 junction at exit 259, exit 249 is about 9.6 miles south and exit 247 about 12.4 miles.

A tow from the Borman junction to Crown Point is a long run on the interstate, so tell dispatch if you can wait for a wrecker or need to be moved out of a hazard.

The Sportsplex and event traffic

The Crown Point Sportsplex is located off I-65. If a bus, RV or trailer breaks down there, tell us the facility, the gate and who is waiting on it.

Rail history

The Pennsylvania Railroad and the Erie Lackawanna once served the city, and both lines have been abandoned. The South Shore Line's new Munster/Dyer station, which opened March 31, 2026, is closer to western Crown Point.

Before you call from Crown Point

What a long-run tow involves

Crown Point lies south of the Borman junction on I-65. A loaded tractor-trailer on the shoulder near US 231 may need a wrecker sized for the tractor and a second unit for the trailer. We ask for the axle count, the cargo and whether the brakes are locked. Dispatch gives an honest arrival estimate on the call and keeps you posted if the scene changes.

Courthouse square streets

If your unit is stuck downtown, the first question is whether it can be moved a few feet under its own power. If not, we plan the wrecker path around the square, parked cars and any events. Give us a cross street and a contact on site.
